Six years after taking on the role of Global CEO, Rajesh Gopinathan is stepping back as Tata Consultancy Services’ Managing Director. The role will now be filled by K Krithivasan, who has been with the firm since 1989.

Outgoing Managing Director and CEO Gopinathan commented, “I have thoroughly enjoyed my exciting 22-year tenure at Tata Consulting Services (TCS). The last six years of leading this iconic organisation have been most enriching and fulfilling.”

Gopinathan joined TCS in 2001, working in a variety of roles, before becoming the Vice President – Business Finance, in 2013. There, he took responsibility for financial planning and control as well asrevenue assurance and margin management. In 2017, he was promoted to CEO and Managing Director, as the company sought to build on rapid growth of its headcount and revenues. Over the last six years, Gopinathan oversaw the adding of over $10 billion in incremental revenues, in that regard, as well as an increase of more than $70 billion in market capitalisation.

TCS Chair N. Chandrasekaran added, “I have had the pleasure of working with Rajesh for the past 25 years. During this period, Rajesh has always distinguished himself with exemplary performance in various roles, including his former role as the Chief Financial Officer. Rajesh has provided strong leadership and has laid the foundation for the next phase of TCS’ growth with significant investments in cloud, agile and automation to help clients accelerate their transformation. I am deeply appreciative of Rajesh’s enormous contribution to TCS. I wish him the very best for the future.”

Now, Gopinathan has decided the time is right to step down from the company, to pursue other interests. He will continue with the company until the 15th of September 2023, to help support to his successor – K Krithivasan – transition into the dual Managing Director and CEO role.

CEO Designate Krithivasan has been part of the global technology sector for over 34 years, joining TCS in 1989. During his long spell with the firm, he has held various leadership roles in delivery, customer relationship management, large programme management and sales. Most recently, he has been President and Global Head of the banking, financial services, and insurance business group at TCS.Krithivasan is also a member of the Board of Directors of TCS Iberoamerica, TCS Ireland and the supervisory board of TCS Technology Solutions AG.
