After another record year of submissions, the shortlist for the 2022 MCA Awards has been announced. The winners will be announced at a special event in London, this November.
Hosted by industry body the Management Consultancies Association(MCA), the MCA Awards has become one of the key highlights of the UK consulting industry calendar. Its 25th annual ceremony will see a gala take place on the 14th of November 2022, at London’s Park Plaza. Presented by newsreader and broadcaster Huw Edwards, the awards will laud the best and brightest in the business.
The MCA has been the industry’s collective voice for more than six decades. Its members make up more than 60% of the UK’s £12 billion consulting industry, and employ roughly 45,000 professionals. After a record haul of submissions from those members, the MCA’s judges had their work cut out when it came to its shortlist – but after months of deliberation, they have whittled it down to a handful of choices across 25 categories.
MCA CEO Tamzen Isacsson said, “We are proud to present the firms and individuals who have been selected by the judges as finalists for 2022. The projects demonstrate the impact delivered by our sector to organisations across many areas of life from driving technology change in some of the UK’s biggest high street brands to assisting the public sector deal with critical issues like adult social care, safety on our railways and breast screening. Congratulations to all the finalists and our thanks go to the independent judging panel who completed a mammoth task in shortlisting this year’s entries.”
A total of 36 consultancies have made it to the interview stage for what the MCA says is “the most competitive year yet” for its event. Illustrating the scope and reach of their work, they will be joined by a total of 85 clients from across the private and public sector, helping to promote the results and impact they have achieved together, across a range of different categories
On top of the event’s pre-existing awards, two new award categories have been announced for 2022, in recognition of the work done by MCA member firms in the prominent areas of sustainability and inclusion. For the Sustainability Award, there must be demonstration of work that has enabled clients and consultancies to deliver sustainability benefits for organisations and/or the wider society in the UK or overseas. The Inclusion Award will meanwhile go to an individual who has excelled at championing and building inclusive workplaces and is a visible advocate and can demonstrate the impact of their work in their firm.
Also new for this year is the Chartered Management Consultant of the Year – recognising exceptional consultants who have been awarded Chartered Management Consultant (ChMC) status, since the qualification’s official launch in April 2021. The charter was developed to set and maintain the highest standards in management consulting. More than 3,000 consultants are currently on the path to achieving chartered status. Consultants from Arup, EY, IBM Consulting and PwC are all recognised in the augural award.
The awards are not just the preserve of the biggest firms, either. Alongside the likes of the Big Four, this year’s shortlist saw a 20% increase in SMEs making it to the final stage, compared to last year. Among them are firms like Coeus Consulting, which is up for the prestigious Technology Transformation category.
Ben Barry, Director, Coeus Consulting, said, “When we founded Coeus in 2013, our mission was to disrupt the dominance of the established players in the management consultancy industry. Being shortlisted for this award, with such a prestigious client, confirms that we are well on our way to achieving this goal.”
