Boston Consulting Group has bundled three of its technology-focused divisions into a new unit, with BCG Digital Ventures, BCG Gamma and BCG Platinion now grouped under the single BCG X roof.
The new BCG X home brings together a team of around 2,500 technologists, designers, and digital consultants – nearly one third of Boston Consulting Group’s broader 7,000-strong pool of tech and digital talent.
Across its 90+ offices in 50+ countries, Boston Consulting Group has around 25,000 staff, the most of which are strategy and management consultants. The group last year generated revenues of $11 billion.
“Our digital business has grown dramatically over the last five years, with nearly half of the firm’s business now driven by digital client work,” said Sylvain Duranton, BCG’s global leader of BCG X.
“As the market continues to evolve and demand for support accelerates, the formation of this new business unit will strengthen BCG’s ability to work on the largest and most complex digital transformation projects. Under the BCG X roof, we will further enhance collaboration among diverse disciplines to serve clients in an even more integrated and seamless way.”
BCG Digital Ventures is the firm’s corporate innovation and digital business building. The unit helps clients invent, launch, and scale new businesses. Founded in 2014, the unit has 16 Innovation Centers around the world.
BCG Gamma is the artificial intelligence and machine learning group of Boston Consulting Group. Since its inception in 2015, BCG Gamma has grown to a team of over 700 data scientists, software and data engineers, and product experts.
BCG Platinion was founded in 2000 to add IT architecture expertise to BCG’s capabilities. The unit, which recently launched in the Middle East, helps clients design, build, and implement IT platforms and architectures.
According to Duranton, BCG X is ideally positioned to be “a natural home for the world’s best technology talent who want to work with the leaders of the world’s largest and most complex organizations to help them achieve their full digital potential.”
Over the next three years, Boston Consulting Group aims to double the size of its BCG X workforce to 5,000.
